facilities and policies that should make the ideal coworking space

Here are some facilities and policies that should make the ideal coworking space successful (in my opinion):

  • 24-hour access with ability to buzz in guests after hours
  • Guest rooms with bathrooms
  • Free invitation for entrepreneurs and creative professionals. Divide into zones to create different vibes.
  • Lots of after-hours event programming for tenant interaction
  • Tenant logos on wall at front entrance
  • White wall for graffiti and brain-storming like the one at Facebook.
  • Lots of white boards with wall-mounted markers & erasers
  • Casual group/team communications areas
  • Closed sound-proof rooms with great accoustics.
  • Private working nooks brightly lit
  • Darm rooms for individuals to brain-storm
  • Food court - with a prepaid card and credit payment plan
  • Junk-food and snack bar
  • LAN gaming ready work-stations
  • Acoustically-isolated telephone booths
  • A studio for podcast/video cast recording
  • A green screen section in that room
  • Super-fast wifi
  • Lots and lots of wall power sockets (1 after every 8 feet)
  • free-flowing caffeine in multiple varieties
  • Free snacks in the fridge
  • A high capacity microwave and grill in the cafeteria
  • Either warm white or daylight diffuse lighting
  • Comfortable ergonomic chairs and desks
  • Sleeping bags
  • Projector and TV in each networking room as specified earlier
  • Smart classroom whiteboards for the projectors
  • Whiteboards
  • Location should provide easy access to public transport
  • Location should be near cafes and shopping complexes, not in the suburbs
  • A game room with toys like LEGO and remote controlled toys to play with
  • Same game room should have board games and video gaming consoles
  • An auditorium to host events and movie nights
  • Resident advisors and mentors
  • Fast video conferencing equipment to skype partners, mentors and investors
  • Expandable/contractable space arrangements
  • Resident lawyers
  • Mail boxes to collect postage
  • Demo days for graduating companies
  • Printing shop in-house in the coworkings space retail block along the food court
  • Regular chair massage appointments on call
  • Printer in every room where you bring your own paper to print on and you pay for new cartridges
  • Pool table and foos-ball
  • Attended reception area for guests with seating
  • Frequent value-adding visitors such as VCs and other mentors
  • a day room for napping
  • Large, spotlessly clean bathrooms
  • If it's a very large space like Google's, scooters or Segway
  • support services like accounting and legal
  • An in-house presentation/graphic designer
  • An in-house filmmaker
  • A brand that can help validate their credibility
  • An online wiki and/or physical bulletin board
  • an externally facing resident list (such as a Guest collection)
  • No-smoking environment
  • Pet-friendly/respectful policy (for those who do/do not like them)
